In 1953-4 a small congregation of Christian’s whose original place of worship called ‘The Gospel Hall’ was the other side of the Marlowes, was taken over by compulsory purchase by the then New Towns Commission.
Despite being threatened with homelessness that group of believers demonstrated amazing determination and sacrificial giving, forward thinking and through Gods supernatural provision, were able to purchase this plot of land and commission the building of a new Church.
“Central Hall” was officially opened 5th November 1955.
From its conception the church on this site on Cemetery Hill has been the home of non-denominational, evangelical believers. Over the years its name has changed. The building was extended three times to meet the needs of the church and its commitment to engage and serve the community.
Early in 2008 God gave the church a clear vision for the future of the church.
The existing building was demolition, and the building of South Hill Centre as we know it, started on 3rd Jan 2008.
The first service in the new South Hill Centre building was held on 23rd January 2009.
